Abstract

This study aims to identify the learning obstacle (LO) experienced by students and to make a didactic design for unit length material in fourth grade elementary school. This study uses a qualitative approach with the DDR (Didactical Design Research) method which has 3 stages, namely prospective analysis, metapedadidactic analysis, and retrospective analysis. In the prospective analysis stage, the researcher identified the LO experienced by students in the length unit measurement material, including: 1) Ontogenic Obstacle, namely the lack of student interest in learning mathematics and lack of understanding of students in the prerequisite material, 2) Didactical Obstacle, the learning method used is still monotonous. , the learning media is less varied, and the teaching materials used are incomplete; 3) Epistemological Obstacle, namely students do not understand how to determine the results of long unit arithmetic operations and do not understand problem solving related to length unit measurement. Based on the findings of the LO, a Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) was compiled and designed a learning design that would be tested. After the didactic design was implemented, the LO results from the final identification test decreased compared to the LO at the time of the diagnostic test.
