Abstract
Indonesian government policy has issued regulation on the trade system for the production and utilization of bioethanol (biofuel) from the aren (Arenga pinnata Merr) plant, which allows businesses to develop bioethanol (biofuel) production for domestic and export needs. For this reason, the decree should be responded positively by developing commodities that have the potential to produce biofuels. Concrete steps that have been taken by the province of Riau are the development of aren. Through the plant breeding program, it was hoped that can produce a variety of new superior cultivars. A part from having high productivity, there are also other characteristics that support effort to improve the quality and competitiveness. In the field of agriculture, germplasm is widely studied and collected to increase agricultural products and food supply. Germplasm is a source of genes that are useful for improving plant character. Plant identification is expected to provide information on the superiority of sugar palm based on the special characteristics possessed by these germplasm. Identification is an activity to characterize all the traits that are owned by the source of genetic diversity as a data base. The aims this study to identification the number of aren plant, production age, of production, never before production, and the sap production per bunch per day in mapping the potential production of sap as a raw material for making sugar. Subsequent to identify molecular genetic mapping. Identify of morphological Identify morphological characters identification was carried out on 14 characters, namely 8 quantitative characters and 8 quantitative characters. The molecular analysis that will be carried out is extract of DNA genomic, PCR and RAPD amplification. Potential economic value of aren can be recommended, identification of morphological characteristics. Genetic mapping of aren species that can be identified and become a source of superior varieties for cultivation.
