Abstract

The workover operation in the "X" field is planned to carry out Put out of hole (POOH) work to remove tubing production which aims to replace the equipment in the well with perforating equipment. The obstacle experienced during the workover operation on this well was the presence of a kick indication. An indication of the cause of the kick in this well is a failure to condition the height of the completion fluid column after the tubing production is removed so that the hydrostatic pressure is reduced. It was found that the height of the completion fluid column decreased by 53.60 ft. The countermeasures method used in this well is the reverse circulation method. The well was successfully resolved by pumping a new completion fluid with brine (KCL) of 8.94 ppg through the annulus after the well was closed to carry out the killing well procedure. A total of 1,445 strokes was obtained and observations were made until the SICP/SITP pressure = 0/0 psi so that the time needed to overcome the kick was 24.9 minutes and the well was said to be safe because there was no more fluid flowing in the tubing.
