Abstract

This study aims to find out how the self-concept of Riau Islamic University students are K-drama lovers in everyday life. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method by conducting in-depth interviews and observations of five research subjects with the characteristics of Korean drama lovers and knowing about Korean dramas. This research technique uses a snowball sampling technique by determining one respondent with another respondent. The informants in this study were five informants from the Islamic University of Riau who liked Korean dramas. The results of this study indicate that Riau Islamic University students have a positive self-concept which has characteristics of high self-confidence, feeling the same as other people, helping others around them, being able to solve problems well, being sensitive to criticism from others but they don't care because they like Korean dramas not for other people to like them. And they are very confident in a competition because in Korean dramas a lot is said about competition. According to them, watching Korean dramas is entertainment and watching Korean dramas with the romantic comedy genre can relieve stress where you laugh and cry and reduce hormone levels in a person's body.
