Abstract
Drilling mud is one of the most important factors in a drilling operation. One of the problems that often arise in drilling mud circulation is lost circulation. To overcome the problem of lost circulation, it is necessary to add LCM. This study used bagasse as LCM material. Bagasse has a high carbon content in the form of 26-43% cellulose and 17-23% hemicellulose so bagasse can be used again as a raw material in the petroleum industry as a lost circulation countermeasures material. In this study, bagasse was processed using the method of separating lignin from cellulose so that it could become LCM. Addition of bagasse into standard sludge with a mass of 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 g using a temperature of 80oF and 140oF. Based on the research results, the addition of bagasse to drilling mud used as loss circulation material (LCM) with a certain concentration and temperature is said to be effective in preventing loss circulation problems. The results of drilling mud rheology testing with the addition of bagasse additive mass can increase the rheological value of drilling mud, but along with an increase in temperature up to 140oF resulted in a decrease in mud rheology value. The results of the filtration loss test show that the more additive mass is added and the temperature is higher, the value of the filtration loss will decrease, while in the mud cake test with the addition of additive mass and an increase in temperature, the mud cake value increases.
