Abstract

Smoking habits are common in public places. This causes a lot of uncomfortable problems for people around. The issue of smoking bans is often overlooked. This problem can be solved with an automatic device that can detect smoke with an alarm warning in a room using the MQ-2 sensor and the NodeMcu Microcontroller. Researchers want to develop a smoke detection method using Internet of Things (IoT) services. With the Internet of Things (IoT) service, smoke level data collection will be sent via the internet to an online website which then sends a telegram notification alert to the person in charge of room security. The application of this technology can be an alternative for smoke detectors in The Palace Hotel Pekanbaru. The whole tool is divided into several parts, which consist of the MQ-2 sensor, NodeMcu microcontroller, and buzzer. This tool works connected to the nearest internet network and the MQ-2 sensor detects cigarette smoke, and the MQ-2 sensor then goes to the NodeMcu microcontroller for processing, from the arduino uno microcontroller then activates the buzzer as a warning alarm which then transfers the data to the website and provides notification of the detected room cigarette smoke to smartphone via telegram notification. The results showed that the smoke level value was more than 300ppm as detected cigarette smoke, because it had tested the system on several prototypes and when there was no cigarette smoke the smoke level value was less than 300ppm.
