Abstract

One of the causes of the low understanding and learning outcomes of students in Mathematics is the lack of valid and practical learning tools used by teachers such as lesson plans and worksheets based on learning models implanted in students (student centered). This study aims to create a learning medium based on Brain Based Learning (BBL) model using a crossword game on number pattern subject for grade VIII at SMPN 6 Siak Hulu. The ADDIE model was used as the development learning device method which include 1) Analysis, 2) Design, 3) Development, 4) Evaluation, and 5) Implementation. The instruments used for collecting the data were syllabus, RPP, and LKPD validation sheets, practicality sheets in the form of teacher and student responses, and the effectiveness in the form of pre-tests and post-tests. Analysis of validity, practicality and effectiveness of the learning media were used to analyze the data. The result of validity test showed that the syllabus, RPP, and LKPD validity were considered as very valid with the respective percentages of 85.52%, 87.09% and 84.97%. The result of the practicality test of teachers and student responses were considered as very practical with respective percentages of 98.33% and 90.04%. The result of the effectiveness test on pre-test and post-test showed that the pre-test and post-test were considered as effective with percentages of 77.57%. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the produced mathematics learning tools based on Brain Based Learning (BBL) model using crossword games is considered as valid, practical and effective. Thus, the learning media made by researchers are worthy to be implemented.
