Abstract

This study aims to examine the aesthetic value of the dance costume created by Faizal Andri's Sempiai dance at the Bina Tasik Studio, Pangkalan Kerinci District, Pelalawan Regency. The theory used in this study is according to Djelantik about the elements contained in the aesthetics of dance clothing. The dance attire used in the Sempiai dance where the male dancer uses top equipment such as a tanjak symbolizing the crown that the male dancer wears proudly. When viewed from the color element, it generally has something in common with the concept of the clothes that Faizal has created so far, that is, all of them have a background in the synopsis or theme of the story and are tied to the color concept of the custom or area he is going to design. Sempiai dance is a dance that was created to describe community activities for making a living for both men and women on the river using sempiai. There are motifs or patterns of carvings that symbolize Malay custom by using a golden yellow color. The decorative motifs in this dance created by Sempiai are influenced by environmental factors so that the impressions from the synopsis conveyed are compatible and mutually sustainable.
