Abstract

sub plays an important role in supporting industrial development and increasing the utilization and sustainability of natural resources in the form of land and water. Independent smallholders are farmers who develop and manage their own oil palm plantations without the help of partner companies. The aims of the study were to analyze 1) Farmer characteristics and profiles of oil palm farming, 2) Techniques of self-supporting oil palm cultivation, 3) Use of production factors, production, production costs, income, and efficiency of self-supporting oil palm farming. The research method is a survey located in Beringin Indah Village, Pangkalan District. The results showed: 1) The characteristics of the self-help pattern of oil palm smallholders in Beringin Indah Village, Pangkalan Kuras District, were in the 46 year old age group, which means they were of productive age. The average education of farmers is 9 years (graduated junior high school) meaning that farmers have low education. The average farming experience is 12 years, which means that farmers have good experience in farming. The average number of dependents of a farmer's family is 2 people, meaning that farmers do not have too much of a burden in daily expenses. The farming profile of all farmers has the status of private land ownership, no one rents. 2) The technology used by farmers is at the beginning of land management, namely excavators. Most farmers still use manual technology, such as tripe, spray tanks. The results of the study show that farmers have not used modern technology much in their farming. The stages of oil palm farming according to the theory are land, selection of seeds, spacing, planting, maintenance, fertilization and harvesting. 3) Oil palm farming pattern analysis consists of production factors, production costs, production, income and efficiency. Where the factors of production of farmers' land area range from 1-3 ha, the allocation of the use of overall labor uses TKLK (Outside Family Labor), the use of oil palm seeds used by farmers is varied, namely the marehat type and not branded, the use of fertilizers consists of manure Ureal, KCL, TSP and dolomite. The total cost of oil palm farming is IDR 34,224,427/cultivation/year. The gross income of the selfsupporting pattern of oil palm farming is Rp. 57,085,920/cultivation/year and the net income is Rp. 22,861,493/cultivation/year. And the efficiency (RCR) of oil palm farming is 1.69.
