Abstract

Cohesion is the relationship between sentences in a discourse both in grammatical and lexical strata. Newspaper is one of the print media that is used to obtain various kinds of information. Information that can be conveyed must use the Indonesian language which is easy to understand and in accordance with the rules of the Indonesian language properly and correctly. Based on the background above, the authors formulated the research problem as follows: how is the grammatical cohesion in the editorial of the haluan riau newspaper? The author aims to collect data and information about grammatical cohesion in the editorials of the haluan riau newspaper. The collected data and information are described, analyzed, and the results of the research are detailed and systematic so that the actual situation regarding grammatical cohesion in the editorials of the Haluan Riau newspaper can be known. The research entitled "Grammatical Cohesion in the Editorial of Riau Haluan Newspaper" is included in the scope of discourse studies, specifically discussing cohesion. The data of this study are words or phrases which are grammatical cohesion in the Haluan Riau newspaper. The data found in the newspapers needs to be studied carefully and for each problem in the newspapers there is grammatical cohesion: Pronouns (personal pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, possessive pronouns and indefinite pronouns) when obtaining data. The method that the authors use in this study is a descriptive method of content analysis. the use of grammatical cohesion of conjunctions in the Riau Haluan editorial is appropriate and in accordance with the rules of grammatical cohesion of pronouns. includes a total of 78 data for personal pronouns, a total of 2 demonstrative pronouns, a total of 10 possessive pronouns, a total of 8 data for interrogative pronouns, no connecting pronouns were found in this study, and no indefinite pronouns were found in this research. study this. this, so that a total of 98 elements of the pronoun cohesion data are said to be correct.
