Abstract

This study aimed to determine the learning difficulties experienced by students and to describe the factors that cause students' learning difficulties in participating in biology subjects which were held from January to July 2022 in class XI of SMAN 2 Bengkalis in the 2021/2022 academic year. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The parameter measured in this study is student learning difficulties. The subjects in this study were 61 students of class XI SMAN 2 Bengkalis. Data collection techniques used were questionnaires, documentation and interviews. The results showed that students in class XI of SMAN 2 Bengkalis had difficulties in learning Biology originating from the psychological aspect, which was 79% in the high category, the family aspect by 75% in the high category, the school aspect by 82% in the high category, and the community environmental aspect 78% in the high category. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that students in class XI SMAN 2 Bengkalis had difficulty in learning Biology by 79% including in the high category.
