Abstract

Language is a system of sound symbols used by society as a means of communication. Each language has its specialties and characteristics of different regional languages. The process of repetition or reduplication is a morphological process that occurs in many languages in the world. The fact found by researchers in the use of Riau Malay, Pangkalan Kasai Village, Seberida District, Indragiri Hulu Regency is that there is repetition of certain words seen from various aspects, such as the form and meaning of reduplication of Malay. The problem taken in this study is how is the form of reduplication found in Riau Malay, Pangkalan Kasai Village, Seberida District, Indragiri Hulu Regency? and What is the meaning of reduplication in Riau Malay, Pangkalan Kasai Village, Seberida District, Indragiri Hulu Regency? The aims of this study were to describe, analyze, and conclude the forms and meanings of Riau Malay Reduplication in Pangkalan Kasai Village, Seberida District, Indragiri Hulu Regency. The theory used in this research is (Ramlan, 2009) about reduplication classification. The research approach used is a qualitative approach. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The results of this study are that the form of reduplication contained in Riau Malay Language, Pangkalan Kasai Village, Seberida District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, there are 71 data, including 37 complete reduplications, 28 partial reduplications, reduplications combined with affixes 2 data and reduplications with phoneme changes. 4 data. While the Meaning of Reduplication, namely Stating the meaning of "many" found as many as 10 data, for example: [sedae-sedae], [bagha?-bagha?], Stating the meaning of 'unconditional' found as many as 4 data, for example: [ujan-ujan], [koci?-koci?] , Stating the meaning of 'the action in the basic form is done repeatedly found as many as 7 data, for example: [me?omas-?omas], [confusing], Stating the meaning 'the action in the basic form is done comfortably, casually, or with pleasure' found 3 data for example: [mema?ai-ma?ai], [chattering], Stating the meaning of 'actions in the basic form were carried out by two parties regarding each other found as much as 1 data namely [bemusi?-musi?], Stating the meaning of 'things related to work in the basic form' found 1 data, namely [bemasa?-masa?an], Stating the meaning of 'intensity of feelings' found 2 data for example: [leta?-leta?], [meada?-ada?].
