Abstract

Zapin Pecah 12 Dance in Pelalawan Regency, this dance has gone through a very long time, and of course it has adapted to changing times, but it still exists and can survive until now. Therefore it needs further research, so the purpose of this research is to describe the existence of the Zapin Pecah 12 Dance in the life of the people of Pangkalan Kerinci, Pelalawan Regency. This research method is a qualitative descriptive method. The results showed that the Zapin Pecah 12 dance in the life of the people of Pangkalan Kerinci, Pelalawan Regency, had existed since the time of the Pelalawan kingdom (1811-1945). Then spread after 1945, and displayed in various cultural events of the local community. In the beginning, the Zapin Pecah 12 dance was only performed by male dancers, and then in the 2000s some began to perform the dance in pairs. The existence of the Zapin Pecah 12 dance in the life of the people of Pangkalan Kerinci, Pelalawan Regency was confirmed by the publication of this dance as one of the intangible cultural heritages by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia and Unesco in 2020. This condition causes the Zapin Pecah 12 dance to continue to exist in people's lives Pangkalan Kerinci, Pelalawan Regency, because the local government is obliged to preserve this culture so that it continues to exist in Pelalawan Regency. Efforts made by the government in preserving the Zapin Pecah 12 dance are by holding competition events, taught in schools in the subject of Cultural Arts, and included in school extracurricular activities.
