Abstract

This study aims to describe teenager’s media literacy in Pekan baru through the 'Twitter Please Do Your Magic' movement on Twitter. Media literacy is a person's ability to create, digest, and analyze information received through social media. In this movement, it is necessary to wisely read the message conveyed because it has the potential to provide hoax messages. Researchers used descriptive qualitative methods by conducting in-depth interviews with 6 informants whose criteria had been determined through purposive sampling, and direct observations on Twitter social media, especially on the base of the 'Twitter Please Do Your Magic' movement. The results of the research show that the 'Twitter please do your magic' movement is a movement created for a noble purpose, but in this movement there are also individuals who use this movement to commit crimes such as fraud or just to make the content viral. To respond to this, the informant admitted that he needed qualified media literacy skills in using social media and digesting information obtained through social media. Informant not only knows basic information about the 'Twitter please do your magic' movement, but the informant has followed, implemented the function of the movement as a form of positive social movement.
