Abstract

Genocide became an issue that suddenly went viral on social media, at least after the massacre of the Muslim minority in the Rohingya. Genocide itself is a term that was initiated in 1948 as the long aftermath of the events known as the Holocaust by Nazi Germany. This study specifically looks at the extent to which the younger generation interprets "genocide" that is present on various social media platforms and is often packaged in the form of suppression of a certain race, ethnicity, religion, and ideology. Researchers dig deeper by interviewing social media users, especially social media activists who have a large number of followers on their accounts. By using the snowball sampling technique, the researcher continued interviews from one social media activist to another. By using Stuart Hall reception analysis, the results found are, 5 informants, 2 of whom are in a negotiating position, which means that most of the genocide incidents present in various parts of the world are political conflicts, although some of them are political conflicts. certain ethnic/religious/racial/ideological disputes. The other 3 informants are in an Oppositional Position, they interpret everything that happens, especially genocide, as purely a political conflict and part of a political conflict, social media often wraps up certain religious or ideological issues to make it more sensational.
