Abstract

The procession in cultural presentation is a series of procedures in an activity or event that is considered to have a certain meaning and purpose, which relies on all aspects of religion and customs that apply in the community. This study aims to determine the meaning of the procession of taking sialang forest honey as local wisdom in Kuantan Singingi Regency in semiotic analysis. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method by conducting in depth interviews and observations of three research subjects with the characteristics of members of the sialang forest honey harvester who have the main task and have more information about the process of taking sialang forest honey. This study uses the theory of Umberto Eco which describes that in interpreting the sign, the recipient actually produces a new sign, wich explains semiotics as a study in two fields, namely semiotics of signification (focusing on the meaning of signs in the form of physical events originating from nature and human behavior) and semiotics of communication (see the sign as a means of communication involving the sender and receiver of the sign). The results of study explain that each procession of taking sialang forest honey has its own meaning, purpose and purpose from each series of processes which aim to maintain the culture and local wisdom of traditional sialang forest honey harvesting.
