Abstract

Batam is one of the cities in Indonesia which has a very close relationship with Pekanbaru. In addition, the geographical location is quite close causing many residents of Batam to travel to Pekanbaru. Passengers from Batam who travel to Pekanbaru have two choices of transportation modes. These routes include sea - land and air routes. These transportation routes have different characteristics and of course will have an impact on the choice of modes for passengers. This will encourage passengers to be more selective in choosing the mode of transportation to be used. This study aims to analyze the factors and make a mode selection model in traveling the Batam - Pekanbaru route. The location of this research is in the Batam city, using a questionnaire filled out by residents of the Riau Islands who have traveled the Batam - Pekanbaru route. The analytical method used is quantitative descriptive analysis. Descriptive analysis is used to explain the characteristics of the selection of passenger transportation modes. While quantitative analysis is used to determine the factors that influence the selection of passenger modes with multiple linear regression using SPSS 24.0 software. Then the results of the linear regression equation will be entered into a binary logit model to determine the probability of choosing the mode of transportation for passengers on the Batam - Pekanbaru route. The results showed that the utility function equations obtained from linear regression analysis were Y=-0.294 – 1.096X3 – 1.816X5 + 1.345X8 + 4.447X9 + 1.766X15. From these results, it is known that there are five variables that have a significant effect on mode selection, namely travel costs (X3), ticket prices (X5), convenience (X8), travel motives (X9), and speed considerations (X15). Then the coefficient values of the five variables are entered into the binary logit model to determine the probability of the alternative mode selection. Then the result is that the probability of passengers on the Batam-Pekanbaru route using air transportation is 57.4%, while the probability of passengers on the Batam-Pekanbaru route using sea-land transportation is 42.6%.
