Abstract

Students’ Perception toward the Use of Kahoot as an Assessment Tool in Learning Media Class of the Fifth Semester of English Language Education at Universitas Islam Riau. The development of technology gives impacts on various aspects in education, such as assessment. Students tend to feel bored, nervous and anxious while doing the test. Consequently, the educators are demanded to be able to create a meaningful and fun atmosphere in the classroom. Kahoot can be used as an assessment tool. The aim of this research was to find out what are the students’ perception toward the use of Kahoot as an assessment tool in learning media class of the fifth semester of English language education of Universitas Islam Riau. The methodology of this research was descriptive qualitative research. This research was aimed to find out the students’ perception regarding Kahoot vs Paper based test, students’ focus, interest and motivation, and the weakness toward the Kahoot as an assessment tool. The researcher used questionnaire and interview. The participants of this research are consisting 30 of the students of the fifth semester of 2018. Then, there are 5 students chosen by the researcher for the interview section. After analyzing the result shows that the indicator Kahoot vs Paper based Test, student’s focus, and interest and motivation is strongly agree. Moreover, in indicator the weakness of Kahoot is responded strongly agree. It shows that most of the respondents are giving positive responses toward using Kahoot as an assessment tool. The result of the research revelaed that that Kahoot is more preferable by the students than paperbased test, which offers challenges, interactive interface, sound, and music, help students to focus on subject, and increase their interest and motivation. Meanwhile, the researcher found that the weaknesses of Kahoot is time limit given and the unstable internet connection.
