Abstract

Nationally, the divorce rate in Indonesia is increasing from year to year. Including the number of divorces from 2020 to 2021 there has been a very drastic increase in divorce. The high divorce rate at that time was due to the presence of Covid-19. This study aims to analyze the causes of the high rate of divorce cases during the pandemic and to find out how divorce cases were resolved at the Pekanbaru Religious Court. This research has 2 formulations of the problem, namely: what is the cause of the high rate of divorce claims due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the jurisdiction of the Pekanbaru City Religious Court in 2021 and how is the solution to the high rate of divorce claims due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the jurisdiction of the Pekanbaru City Religious Court year 2021. The method used to answer the problems mentioned above is sociological legal research by conducting research at the Pekanbaru Religious Court. The data used in this thesis were obtained through interviews, distribution of questionnaires, laws and regulations, books, journals, theses, and opinions of experts. The entire data that has been obtained is then analyzed and concluded through qualitative methods. Based on the results of the research, it was found that the reason for the increase in lawsuits during the Covid-19 pandemic that occurred at the Pekanbaru City Religious Court was due to several factors, the most important of which were due to economic factors, constant quarrels, and the presence of domestic violence. in the family, etc. Many breadwinners are unable to support their families because they do not have a job and it is difficult to get a new job, so the wife chooses the last resort by filing for divorce.
