Abstract

At this time because the more needs and uses of tires, the more waste produced, waste from used tires is very difficult to be decredited by nature, one of the efforts in processing waste is to degenerate thermally through the pyrolysis process to destroy tires into smooth, tire ash included in natural pozzolan material because it contains silica (SiO2) which can reduce the use of portland cement in one concrete mixture (Sandy, 2014). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding tire ash to the compressive strength of concrete. The tire ash in this study was used to reduce the amount of cement used in the concrete mixture. With a cylindrical specimen with a diameter of 150 mm and a length of 300 mm mix design, it is planned to set a cement water factor of 0.49 with a plan quality of fc '25 and a slump plan of 60-180 mm, the percentage substitution of tire ash from a cement weight of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10%, the cement used in this study was PCC type I cement from PT. Semen Padang. each mixture is made of 3 test items for testing at the age of 28 days. The results of the use of tire ash as substitution indicate that the greater the addition of tire ash the greater the slump value obtained, meaning that the resulting concrete is more slab so that it can simplify the process of processing and compaction. Compressive strength of concrete has decreased with the addition of tire ash, a decrease of 4.44% in the use of 2.5% tire ash, use of 5% compressive strength down 12.88%, use of 7.5% tire ash compressive strength down 14,25%, the use of 10% tire ash is down 34.47%. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of tire ash cannot influence the increase or equalization of the compressive strength of concrete and cannot be used as a substitute or reduction in the use of cement with the type I composite cement produced by PT. Semen Padang. Further research is needed on the content of physical and chemical properties of tire ash.
