Abstract

High economic growth, equitable per capita income, and low unemployment are the main benchmarks for the progress of regional development. Economic growth is a quantitative measure that describes the development of an economy in a given year when compared to the previous year expressed in the form of a percentage or the output of the number of goods and services increases in the following year. One of the issues in the Tanjungpinang City and Batam City is that there is a significant difference in the value of (gross regional domestic product) between the two regions, the Batam City with the highest (GRDP) compared to Tanjungpinang City Riau Island Province. The purpose of the study was to analyze the comparison of economic sector growth rates in Tanjungpinang City and Batam City Riau Island Province seen from the last five years of 2013 – 2017. This study used the last few secondary data, 2013 – 2017 from (gross regional domestic product). The analytical tool used in this study Location Quotient analysis, Shift Share analysis, Comparative analysis, Revealed Comparative Adventage analysis. The result of the Location Quotient analysis in Tanjungpinang City show 11 superior sectors, while Batam City shows 9 superior sectors. Shift Share analysis result show Tanjungpinang City 7 sectors with rapid growth rates, while Batam City shows 5 sectors with rapid growth rates. The result of the Revealed Comparative Adventage analysis show that Batam City has better competitiveness than Tanjungpinang City.
