Abstract

Motorized vehicles are the most widely used means of transportation in the world. With the increase in the number of motorcycles, the need for fuel oil is also increasing. The increase in the number of motorcycles is also accompanied by the age of motorcycles as a result of which the engine performance decreases. Currently, technological developments make everything possible by creating new renewable energy, one of which is Hydrogen Hydrogen Oxygen (HHO) where this technology is made from water which is widely available in our country. Oneway to get hydrogen gas is by electrolysis of water by making additional parts to maximize vehicle engine performance, one of which is an electrolyzer. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in the type of catalyst in the electrolyzer on the performance of a motorcycle engine and to obtain the type of catalyst that has the best engine performance. This research uses three types of catalyst variations, namely potassium hydroxide (KOH), sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) using a dynamometer. Variations in this type of catalyst will affect the performance of the motorcycle engine. As the test results, Potassium hydroxide (KOH) catalyst has a higher engine performance value than sodium hydroxide (NaOH) catalyst, sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and when not using an electrolyzer. The type of catalyst that has the best engine performance is the Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) catalyst. It is because the KOH catalyst produces more hydrogen gas so that the combustion process in the combustion chamber becomes more perfect.
