Abstract

Oil and gas production as a source of energy is one of the most important needs to continue to exist. Various methods have been developed to increase oil production starting from natural flow, secondary recovery, and EOR. The most frequently used EOR method is polymerflooding and is proven to increase oil production and decrease water production. Polymers are divided into two types, namely synthetic polymers and biopolymers. Polysaccharides are a type of natural polymer derived from plants which are classified as biopolymers. In this study, research on kepok bananas will be carried out, because kepok bananas contain polysaccharides and are easy to find. Research using the basic ingredients of banana kepok starch has actually been carried out, but only tested compatibility, density and viscosity. This study aims to determine the functional groups contained in banana kepok starch by conducting the Fourier Transfrom Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) test and to determine the morphology contained in banana kepok starch by conducting a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) test as a potential biopolymer alternative material for chemical EOR. . The results of the FTIR test on kepok banana starch showed the functional groups O-H (3322.53), C-H (2937.71), C=O (1663.68), C-O (1242.21) and SEM test results showed several small granule sizes 21.2µm, medium 77.1µm and large 90.6µm. Starch granules have an irregular oval shape, some are large and small with a smooth surface shape.
