Abstract

This study aims to determine student learning independence and the factors that influence student learning independence in mathematics subjects at SMA Negeri 4 Tanah Putih. Analysis of student learning independence in this study used descriptive qualitative research methods with data collection techniques in the form of questionnaires (questionnaires), interviews and documentation. Data collection instruments in the form of questionnaires and interview guidelines. Research data analysis techniques in the form of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Processing the validity of research data using source triangulation techniques. From the results of the study, it was found that: (1) Students' learning independence was in the high category in all indicators, namely, learning initiative (75.27 %), diagnosing learning needs (72.5 %), setting learning targets/goals (71.42 %), view difficulties as challenges (73.51 %), utilize and find relevant sources (73.59 %), choose and determine learning strategies (68.83 %), evaluate the process of learning outcomes (76.01%) and self efficacy (73.77%); (2) The factors that influence student learning independence based on internal factors are in the very high category on the indicator of disciplined behavior (83.16%) and are in the high category on the indicator of having self-confidence (73.9%), not depending on people others (61.03%) and responsibility in learning (76.07%). Meanwhile, based on external factors, it is in the high category in all indicators, namely, family environment (79.43 %), school environment (79.72%) and community environment (76.07%); (3) The most dominant factor affecting student learning independence in mathematics at SMA Negeri 4 Tanah Putih is external factors with an average percentage of 78.41% in the high category.
