Abstract

Water Sensitive City (WSC) is an urban development approach that is oriented toward water cycle management. This approach can promote water conservation to address safe urban stormwater management and be more responsive to the impacts of urbanization and climate change. This concern encourages the identification of implementation of water-sensitive city concept in Bukit Raya District. Bukit Raya District is a flood-prone area in Pekanbaru City. This study aims to identify the implementation of improved water cycle management for urban stormwater management with Water Sensitive City Concept in Bukit Raya District, Pekanbaru City, to create resilient urban spaces against flood problems. The method used to identify the characteristics of water cycle management in Bukit Raya District is Benchmarking Water Sensitive City (WSC) Index. The results showed that the average value of the WSC index in Bukit Raya District is 2.7. There are two indicators below the threshold, so the development is prioritized. They are “activating connected green-blue space” and “urban elements functioning as part of the urban water cycle” For improving the water cycle management performance, it is necessary to develop a strategy that implements green infrastructure in urban elements as part of the water cycle management in Bukit Raya District. The implementation strategy consists of three typologies, i.e., organizing water-sensitive green space on the lot scale, organizing water-sensitive green space on the streetscape scale, and developing green space around the river as a buffer zone.
