Abstract
Advances in technology and the modern era make students use impolite language in everyday life to use impolite language in the school environment. Politeness is needed so that there is no offense between the speech participants, especially in imperative utterances. Imperative utterances are utterances that ask the interlocutor to do what the speaker wants. Therefore, researchers are interested in studying politeness in the school environment, especially students of class XI IPS SMA N 2 Bangko Pusako. The problem under study is the imperative utterances of class XI IPS students at SMA N 2 Bangko Pusako? The theory used by researchers is the theory put forward by Rahardi and Leech. The data source is the language activity that occurs between students. The data obtained are all imperative utterances identified in the students' utterances. The collection techniques used are observation techniques, listening techniques, and note-taking techniques, recording techniques. The analysis technique used by the author is coding, data calcification, and interpreting the researcher's findings. The conclusion of this study is that imperative speeches are classified as polite and imperative requests are found which are classified as impolite because every utterance spoken by the speaker uses coercive language, not thinking about the feelings of the interlocutor when the speaker orders the interlocutor.
