Abstract

This research was carried out in the experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau Islamic University for four months from August 2018 to November 2018. The purpose of this study was to determine the response of melon plants to the provision of vermicompost and coconut coir POC. The experimental design used in this study was a Factorial Completely Randomized Design consisting of two factors. The first factor is the provision of vermicompost (K) with 4 levels: K0 (without giving vermicompost), K1 (2.1 kg / plot), K2 (2.8 kg / plot), K3 (3.5 kg / plot) and the second factor is giving Coconut Coir POC fertilizer (S) with 4 levels: S0 (Without Giving Coconut Coir POC), S1 (25 ml / plant), S2 (50 ml / plant), S3 (75 ml / plant). The parameters observed were flowering age, harvest age, fruit diameter, fruit weight per fruit, thickness of fruit flesh, and organoleptic test (taste and texture). The last observation data were analyzed statistically and continued with a further test of real honest difference (BNJ) with a level of 5%. The results showed that the response of melon plants interactively to the application of vermicompost and coconut husk POC was real to flowering age, fruit diameter, fruit weight per fruit, and thickness of fruit flesh. The best treatment is giving the vermicompost 3.5 kg / plot and coconut fiber POC 75 ml / plant (K3S3). In particular, the response of melon plants to the application of vermicompost fertilizer was real to all observational parameters. The best treatment is giving ascing fertilizer at a dose of 3.5 kg / plot (K3). Mainly the response of melon plants to the giving of coconut coir POC was real to all observational parameters. The best treatment is giving coconut fiber POC with a dose of 75 ml / plant (S3).
