Abstract

Pandau Permai housing is one of the housing areas located on the outskirts of Pekanbaru City, and has been facilitated by public transportation in the form of the Pekanbaru Transmetro. However, the desire of the people at Pandau Permai Housing is minimal to use the Pekanbaru Transmetro facilities, thus affecting the number of passengers using the Pekanbaru Transmetro and impacting on the low level of pedestrians in the area. The purpose of this research is to identify the level of walkability in Pandau Permai housing. This study uses a quantitative method that is used to systematically calculate environmental conditions in the Pandau Permai Housing area based on six walkability indexes, namely connectivity index, entrophy index, settlement density index, floor area ratio index, proximity index, and environmental friendliness/sidewalk roadbed ratio index. In addition, this research also uses Geographic Information Systems, namely ArcGIS. Based on the results of the analysis that has been carried out, the calculation of the walkability index zone 1 is a zone that produces a positive index (3.202) meaning that this zone supports the community in walking (walkable). Meanwhile, zone 2 and zone 3 have negatif index results, which means that these two zones do not support people walking, so it is necessary to develop zones 2 and 3. With two zones that have negatif values, it is the basis that walkability in residential areas is still low. Pandau Permai or it can be said that Pandau Permai housing is not friendly for pedestrians.
