Abstract

Sand problem is a problem caused by unconsolidated sand reservoir natural factors and if the sand grains are also produced along with reservoir fluid, it can cause damage to production equipment above and below the surface and can reduce well performance. Based on the data obtained from well X, the sand problem has the effect of decreasing the production rate by 70%. To prevent the entry of sand grains into production wells, sand control management is needed. The working principle of sand control provides a limit or media as a filter so that the reservoir fluid entering the well is free from grains of sand. Objectively, the sand control method used in this research is gravel pack and stand-alone screen (SAS). This research is a simulation research, using PROSPER software, the data used is secondary data. This research was conducted at well X field Y where a comparison of production performance will be carried out after sand control management has been carried out with two methods, namely gravel pack and SAS. Comparative analysis of the two methods will be seen from the Gravel Pack skin value is 2.75 and SAS is 3.20 , and Gravel Pack friction value is 41.07 and SAS is 38.34. The production rate obtained using the gravel pack method is 1967.3 STB/d, and the SAS method is 1890.2 STB/d. Based on the results obtained indicate that the gravel pack method is more suitable to be applied where the production flow rate obtained by this method is greater than the SAS method. The use of the SAS method on a horizontal well causes bridging plug problems resulting in formation damage (positive skin).
