Abstract
This research is titled "Analysis of Vape Users (E-Cigarettes) as a Consumptive Lifestyle of Riau Islamic University Students (Marpoyan Damai Case Study)". The problem in this study is what are the motives of students using e-cigarettes and how the process of student awareness in using e-cigarettes occurs and the meaning of e-cigarettes as a consumptive lifestyle or for the social existence of students at Riau Islamic University. The purpose of this study is to determine the motive, process of awareness and meaning of vape (e-cigarettes) as the social existence of students at Riau Islamic University. In this study, it is qualitative with data collection techniques in the form of observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The location of this research was carried out around the campus of Riau Islamic University, especially the area where students gather for a place to relax. The research informants were randomly selected by taking 10 informants consisting of students of Riau Islamic University and close friends of the main informants. The results of this study show that the motives of students using e-cigarettes consist of two motives. namely: namely curiosity, the influence of friends, the taste is good and diverse, environmentally friendly, fragrant aroma. Second, the motive goal is: to reduce addiction to conventional cigarettes, to save expenses. The process of awareness in students in using ecigarettes is through the process of subjective awareness, objective awareness and intersubjective awareness. The meaning of cigarettes as a lifestyle or social existence of students is: to be recognized for their existence in the circle of friendship as a tool to express a modern lifestyle.
