Abstract

Dagong dance is one of the arts that is still being preserved by the Akit tribe in Bengkalis Regency, Berancah Village to be precise. This dance serves as entertainment in marriage and death ceremonies. The movements in the Dagong Dance are related to the movements of the feet, hands, head, hips that fall down, rotate and back and forth and have the characteristics of the accompanying music that are different from other traditional dances. This study aims to find out how the aesthetic value of music in the accompaniment of Dagong dance in the Akit Tribe, Bantan District, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The research object is the accompaniment of the dagong dance in terms of the musical instruments used, the tone, and the accompaniment of the song. Research data obtained from observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that previously the music of the dagong dance was a combination of two musical instruments, namely the drum and the gong, so that the Akit people called it dag gong dag gong and was given the name dagong dance. In presenting the musical accompaniment of the dagong dance, there are important elements, namely accompaniment music, dance, make-up, and venue. The musical instruments that accompany the dagong dance are the violin, gong, and kompang/burana, where each musical instrument emits a distinct sound which forms a neat musical blend. The costumes used by the dagong dance music players are neatly free while the dancers use kebaya and loose cloth and scarves as accessories. The various movements of the dagong dance consist of opening greetings, moving forwards, backwards swinging, rotating motions, jekel jolok movements, condescending motions, and closing greeting motions. The musical accompaniment used in the dagong dance varies, according to the rhythm/variety of movements and songs that are sung.
