Abstract

this research aims to analyze the how far the quality of students reading and their vocabulary mastery and then to find out the correlation between it.vocabulary is knowledge of words and word meanings and also knowing about how the word sound and how the word sound and how the words are used in context.and reading comprehension is a quality of the reading that combining information from a text and their own background knowledge to build meaning.the design of this research is correlation research.correlation design are procedure in quantitative research in which investigators measure the degree of association (or relstion)between two or more variables using the statistical procedure of correlational analysis.especially to find out the correlation between vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension.the population of this study was the eighth grade students of MTSN AL- Khairat in pelalawan.the sample consist of 30 students.the result of this research show that students achieved a balanced level of vocabulary and reading scores in two aspects: vicabulary and reading comprehension. researcher found correlation between students vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension when learning english.the value of correlation is 0,85. from the coefficient correlation table,it can be concluded that the level of this correlation is in 0,80 to 1,00.based on the correlstion table,the valu of 'r' in this research is very high correlated.it can be said the correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of MTSN AL-Khairat eighth grade student is very high.this means if the students was good in reading comprehension, it means they also good at vocabulary.in other cases,as well
