Abstract

Paraffin deposits are a problem that can reduce oil recovery, especially in reservoirs that have high paraffin values. Paraffin deposits consist of wax, asphaltenes, resins, sand and others. The main component of paraffin deposits is wax. Factors that cause the formation of paraffin wax deposits are temperature, pressure, composition, and others. If the paraffin wax has formed crystals in the reservoir, wellbore, flow lines, or surface facility, it will cause several problems such as increased viscosity, clogging and others. The method used to prevent the formation of paraffin wax is the preventive method (paraffin inhibitor). In this study, pour point and viscosity vs shear rate tests were carried out which aimed to find out how much influence the chemical had to be able to reduce the pour point and viscosity values before and after the chemical was given. This study used 3 chemicals, namely PI-1, PI-2, and PI-3 with concentrations of 250, 750, 1000, and 1500 ppm, and used 3 crude oils in Field X, Y, and Z. Based on the results obtained that in the pour point test, only chemical PI-1 could not reduce the pour point, and it was found that PI-2 is the best chemical among other chemicals, with a decrease in field X (3.4%; 5.7%; 6.8%; 10.2% ), Field Y (4.4%; 6.5%; 8.7%; 10.9%), and Field Z (2.8%; 4.2%; 5.6%; 11.0%), so the higher the concentration, the better the decrease, because the concentration of 1500 is the highest. nice drop. Therefore, the viscosity vs shear rate test only uses chemicals with a concentration of 1500 ppm. Based on the results of the viscosity vs shear rate test that all chemicals can affect and reduce the viscosity value, it was found that PI-3 is the best chemical among other chemicals, namely with a decrease in field X (26.82; 26.07; 23.84; 23.09), Field Y ( 7.45; 6.70; 5.96; 5.21), Field Z (14.90; 14.15; 12.91; 12.41) so that the higher the concentration, the better the decrease in viscosity produced.
