Abstract

Carrying out fostering guidance, officers of correctional institutions must be able to maintain balance and provide equal treatment to fellow prisoners. One of the personality coaching that must be done by officers is to develop interpersonal communication skills of the assisted citizens. This needs to be done so that in correctional institutions they are able to interact with fellow inmates and also officers of correctional institutions, and later when they are free from their detention period they can interact with the community and be able to be accepted by the community. The purpose of this study is to analyze interpersonal communication between the Section of Work Activities in fostering the skills of residents guided by Class 2A Adult Pekanbaru City as well as supporting and inhibiting factors. The research method used is a qualitative method. Data collection techniques are observation, interview and documentation. From the results of interviews and observations that have been made, it can be concluded that the communication carried out by the Work Activities Section of the assisted citizens in the process of coaching is more often using verbal communication than nonverbal. While the communication shown by the assisted people is more on nonverbal communication. The use of verbal messages by the coach is not fully able to make the inmates provide information about him by telling directly. However, the intended nonverbal can provide convenience for the coaches in assessing the attitudes of the assisted citizens. The factors that support the coaching process aside from the prison are the family and the people closest to the prisoners themselves. While the inhibiting factor of coaching itself is the limited number of supervisors and hours of supervision that are not up to 24 hours. In addition to the limited facilities and infrastructure available by the prison for guidance. With the integration of the prison prison environment and the coaching practice room, it makes the development of the prison less effective.
