Abstract

Writing is one of important skills in English that should be mastered by students, because it is one of the ways to communicate with someone by using written language. The aim of the research was to find out whether there is or not significant effect of Social Media Facebook as Media for writing descriptive text of the first year students of SMKN 1 Singingi Hilir. This research was an experimental research. It is done in two groups: an experimental class and control class. The experimental group used Social Media Facebook as tool and the control group did not use it. The location of this research was at SMKN 1 Singingi Hilir. Population of this research was the first year students of SMKN 1 Singingi Hilir. Population consist of 170 students and sample consist of 35 students which was in AKT 1 17 students and AKT 2 18 students. Based on data analysis, the result of the research can be concluded as follows; the application of the Social Media Facebook as tool in learning writing is suitable for be used because vocational high school and gives good effect for the students‟ writing ability. Their writing ability is better than before. The score of observed statistic t-score was as greater (4.963) than t-table in significant of 5% (1.692). The result based on the formulation of the problem in the first chapter is alterntive hyphotesis was accepted and the null hyphothesis was rejected. So, the result of teaching writing by using Social Media Facebook as Media in experimental group was better than the control group. Therefore, there is significant and positive effect using Social Media Facebook towards students' writing ability in descriptive text of the first year students of SMKN 1 Singingi Hilir.
