Abstract

This study is motivated by a lack of students’ competency in reciting the Quran at the Khairul Ummah 2 Islamic boarding school of Pekanbaru. It can be seen from several signs, such as: there are still many students who are not fluent or stammer in reciting the Quran, and there are some students who are not correct in pronouncing tajwid fluently and accurately. The problem formulation of the study is whether the metacognitive has roles in improving the students’ competency in reciting the Quran at the Khairul Ummah 2 Islamic boarding school of Pekanbaru city. This is a qualitative study with a descriptive approach. The object of the study is the roles of metacognitive in improving students’ competency in reciting the Quran at the Khairul Ummah 2 Islamic boarding school of Pekanbaru city. The main informants of this study are six students in grade 1 Aliyah at Khairul Ummah 2 Islamic boarding school of Pekanbaru city. The data collection techniques of the study are interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis techniques of the study are data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the roles of metacognitive in improving students’ competency in reciting the Quran are: being fluent and accurate in pronouncing the tajwid when reciting the Quran, being able to say makhorijal letters clearly and precisely, implementing the contents of the Quran in daily life, becoming an imam or preside over certain events, reciting the Quran fluently and motivating other friends.
