Abstract

Concrete is one of the most widely used construction materials buildings, bridges, roads, and others. Concrete has a very important role important for construction because it is able to withstand compressive forces well but weak to the tensile force. South Kalimantan is the largest mining area in Indonesia one of which is coal. Areca nut fiber is an excellent waste for tensile strength of concrete. The use of concrete is already popular, in the development of concrete mixed with several additional ingredients, both chemical and non-chemical one of them in this study is by using coal fly ash as added material and areca nut fiber. In previous research there has been done separately on fly ash coal and areca nut shell fiber with the same percentage, so this research a combination of these two things is done to get the compressive strength value and optimal splitting tensile strength. Coal fly ash is used as a substitute material a portion of cement and the addition of areca nut fiber with a percentage of the mixture of 0%, 5% FAB and 0.2% SKP, 10% FAB and 0.4% SKP, 15% FAB and 0.6% SKP, and 20% FAB and 0.8% SKP. The research method used in this research is experiment according to SNI-03-2834-2002 for concrete mix design. The test object is a cylinder size (150 mm x 300 mm) of 30 samples. From the results of the concrete compressive strength test, the compressive strength of concrete has increased with a mixture of 5% FAB and 0.2% SKP with a compressive strength value of 29.063 MPa of 5.48%. In the test the tensile strength of concrete from all mixtures has increased from normal concrete. The biggest increase was in the percentage of 5% FAB concrete mix and SKP 0.2% with a concrete splitting tensile strength of 3.231 MPa of 16.1%. Based on In this study, the concrete used a mixture of coal fly ash and areca bark fiber not can be used for heavy construction, but coal fly ash and areca nut shell fiber can used in light construction work.
