Abstract

This research is motivated by a broken home family who is divorced, and the child has step parents who live together. This study focuses on broken home families at the Islamic University of Riau. The purpose of this study is to find and explain how the interpersonal communication that children do with their stepparents in everyday life at home. In terms of interpersonal communication, according to Liliweri, Alo is a type of interpersonal relationship between children and parents, communication is carried out directly or indirectly, where each response is felt directly. With a descriptive qualitative method, the subject of this study used a snowball sampling technique at the Islamic University of Riau with a total of 4 families. The results of this study contained several findings, namely in the first family, communication between children and stepparents was open, where children communicated by exchanging intimate facts with each other and on the contrary, findings from three families were still less open in communicating, which in communicating only conveyed things. the most important thing, such as parental orders to children, or asking questions about college, this is due to lack of time together and also because parents are busy working.
