Abstract

The problem with Sidempuan salak farmers in procuring production inputs is the difficulty in obtaining superior seeds, due to limited quantities, so farmers only use standard quality seeds purchased at expensive farm shops and also cultivate their own seeds from the same salak tree. This study aims to analyze: 1). Characteristics of farmers and business profiles of Sidempuan salak fruit. 2). Provision of production inputs. 3). farming. 4). Sidempuan salak fruit processing. 5). Marketing. 6). Supporting services. The research method is a survey method in Padang Sidempuan Hutaimbaru District, Padang Sidempuan City, North Sumatra Province. This research was conducted for six months starting from January to June 2022. The samples for this research were farmers, collectors, agro-industry entrepreneurs and extension workers, a total of 31 samples. The type of data used is primary and secondary data. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of the study show that 1) Farmers are in the productive age category, 12 years/high school education, most of them are experienced and the number of family dependents is relatively small. The average land area is 2 ha, the status of privately owned land, private business capital and workers come from within the family. 2) Availability of production facilities such as fertilizers, pesticides and agricultural equipment purchased from markets and agricultural kiosks located in the study area. Provision of production facilities for sidempuan salak farming fulfills the requirements for accuracy except in terms of the high price of seeds. 3) Traditional cultivation technology, production of Rp. 5,096, average production cost of Rp. 11,460,104/ha/year, average gross income of Rp. 50,962,963/ha/year, net income of Rp. 39,502,859/ha / year and an efficiency of 1.32. 4) Processing of Sidempuan salak into dodol salak with simple production technology, the production process takes ± 8.5 hours including cleaning, washing, slicing, boiling (steaming), grinding, cooking, printing and packaging. The total cost is IDR 3,427,780 per production process. The average production of 90 kg of dodol per production process is obtained from 25 kg of salak. Total net income of Rp. 622,220 per production process and an added value of IDR 48,860/box. 5) There is only one marketing channel, namely from farmers to collectors, then to agro-industry entrepreneurs, then dodol traders and consumers. 6) Supporting services include road infrastructure, extension services and financial institutions.
