Abstract

Analysis of the film my name is khan in representing the struggle against the stigma of Islam as a terrorist religion Aznil wahyudin 169110241 The film My Name Is Khan is one of the films that raises the issue of the struggle against the stigma of Islam as a terrorist religion. This study aims to find out how the film My Name Is Khan represents the struggle against the stigma of Islam as a terrorist religion. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative with a semiotic analysis approach, to see forms of representation of the struggle against the stigma of Islam as a terrorist religion and then interpret it with scientific references. Data collection was taken from the film My Name Is Khan which depicts elements of the struggle against the stigma of Islam as a terrorist religion, such as dialogue, scenes, settings, shooting and so on. Data analysis used Roland Barthes's semiotic method which examines meaning using a two-stage meaning system, namely the first stage is denotation, the actual meaning in the film, and the second is connotative meaning, at this stage there is a myth. The conclusion of this study is that the stigma of Islam as a terrorist religion arises because of a wrong understanding of Islam itself, and because media coverage often portrays Islam as a radical, terrorist religion. From this stigma, finally emerged discrimination, physical, mental and moral pressure against Islam and its adherents. To get out of stigma and discrimination, it can be done by proving that. In this film, actions that are carried out with sincerity and without distinction of race are depicted as being able to change the stigma of Islam as a terrorist religion, but Islam as a religion that respects others, loves peace, cares for others, is tolerant between religious communities and is gentle.
