Abstract

This study aims to find out how cultural preservation efforts are made in the treatment of bedekeh for the Sakai people in Minas District, Siak Regency, Riau Province. The theory used to answer this research problem is according to Sedyawati (2007:11-13) protection, development, and utilization. This study uses an interactive qualitative approach. Research on the preservation of bedekeh treatment was carried out in West Minas Village, Minas District, Siak Regency. In order to obtain the data, informants were determined as the research data source through interview techniques, then supported by observation and documentation. All collected data is separated according to its parts, then analyzed and conclusions drawn from the results of the research. Bedekeh treatment is seen from an artistic point of view as part of the art that must be preserved, so protection from all groups is needed to preserve this art. Then the development will be carried out by the artists as one of the elements of art that is appropriate to be displayed and presented to art connoisseurs. While the utilization that can be done in the preservation of this bedekeh treatment from the side of the local community as a means of alternative medicine and for artists as material available in nature within the scope of local wisdom.
