Abstract

The study is motivated by the low analytical thinking ability of students with the signs of some students who are unable to convey ideas, some students can only answer the teacher questions based on their feelings or guesses, and some students lack discipline. Therefore, the teachers’ efforts are very important to improve students’ analytical thinking ability in the learning process. The problem formulation of the study is how the efforts of Islamic Studies teachers in improving students’ analytical thinking ability in learning Islamic Studies at SMPN 12 Pekanbaru. The study aims to investigate the efforts of Islamic Studies teachers in improving students’ analytical thinking ability in learning Islamic Studies at SMPN 12 Pekanbaru. The subject of the study is the Islamic Studies teachers at SMPN 12 Pekanbaru. The object of the study is the efforts of Islamic Studies teachers to improve students’ analytical thinking ability. The method of the study is a descriptive qualitative method. The main informants of the study are the Islamic Studies teachers at SMPN 12 Pekanbaru, they are Mr. As'ari, S.Pd and Mrs. Ismawati, M.Pd. The data collection techniques of the study are observation, interviews, and documentation. The data validity guarantee technique is a credibility test conducted by triangulation. The data analysis techniques of the study are data reduction, data display, verification and drawing conclusions. The results of the study based on interviews and observations show that the Islamic Studies teachers have made efforts to improve students’ analytical thinking ability in accordance with the theories by: (1) Making sure the learning objectives of each lesson to students learn, (2) Asking several main questions related to the teaching material to be studied, (3) using information, data or facts on phenomena that have happened then they learn to understand and discuss about them, (4) discussing information from textbooks with theories in reference books, (5) encouraging students to interpretation by analyzing, concluding, or formulating a solution to the problems.
