Abstract

This study aims to investigate whether there is an influence of school rules in improving students’ discipline at SMPN 1 Tualang in Siak Regency. The type of the study is quantitative research with a correlational approach. The subject of the study is the students in grade VIII at SMPN 1 Tualang and the object of the study is the school rules in improving students’ discipline at SMPN 1 Tualang in Siak Regency. The population of the study consists of 270 students. The sample is taken by using the Slovin formula, so the total sample is 161 students. The data collection techniques of the study are questionnaires and documentation. Based on the results of the study, it is found that there is an influence of school rules in improving students’ discipline in grade VIII at SMPN 1 Tualang in Siak Regency. From the results of simple linear regression analysis, it is known that a significance value is 0.000, because 0.000 is less than 0.05, so the alternative hypothesis is accepted. The magnitude of the influence of school rules is 0.569 or 56.9% which is categorized as medium, because it is in the range of 0.40-0.599 in the correlation coefficient interpretation table, while the remaining 43.1% is influenced by other factors. In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis is accepted and the level of relationship between school rules and students’ discipline at SMPN 1 Tualang in Siak Regency is in the medium category.
