Abstract
This study aims to explain the role of the driving school principal with the application of transformational leadership in Dumai City. With a qualitative approach through observations and interviews with 8 teachers of driving schools as key informants and 8 principals of driving schools as main informants, data on behavior of principals was collected. From the comparative analysis of the leadership behavior of the driving principals in Dumai City with the theory of transformational leadership characteristics of Bass and Avolio (1994), the results of the study show that the behavior of the driving principals with the application of transformational leadership has a ENOUGH ROLE. This is because the driving school principal has not optimally carried out school transformation in providing intellectual stimulation. Inhibiting factors from within the self-driving principal who need to strengthen insight and knowledge move followers to be innovative and creative. As well as from outside the principal in the form of an increased task load to carry out an independent curriculum with less available facilities and budgets.
