Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the supervision of the granting of remissions to prisoners in the Class II A Penitentiary in Pekanbaru. The nature of the research is normative juridical. Library materials and document studies are used as the main material while field data will be used as supporting or complementary data. The problem that occurs in the Class II A Pekanbaru Correctional Institution is the condition of the prison that already has an excess capacity than it should, thus eliminating the meaning and purpose of making the prison itself, which is to become a place for convicts of criminal cases. unwanted things such as riots in escape and running away or escaping, in terms of granting remissions, there are also obstacles, including: difficulty in getting justice collaborators, lack of transparency in granting remissions and lack of coordination between prisons and investigators. The research method used is using qualitative data and descriptive analysis which is also by collecting data in the form of questionnaires and interviews with the parties involved. The implementation of granting remissions to prisoners as an effort to reduce the number of residents of Class II A Pekanbaru Penitentiary can be seen that remissions are given to prisoners who have met the requirements as stipulated in the applicable laws and regulations. With the aim of remission, it can reduce the capacity of prisons so that they can minimize the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
