Abstract

Densely populated urban settlements are often associated with low occupancy rates. At a glance it can be seen that there are densely populated areas, although physically they have limitations. However, in terms of habitability, it shows advantages compared to other densely populated areas. Basically, public space is a container that can accommodate certain activities / activities from the community, both individually and in groups. This study took the Simpang Empat Sub-District because among the six sub-districts in Pekanbaru Kota District is one of the sub-districts that is very fast in terms of development. This research is a quantitative descriptive study that aims to identify and assess the livability of public spaces in densely populated settlements in Simpang Empat Sub-District, Pekanbaru Kota. The number of samples in this study were 100 respondents, where the samples are the people who live and visitors to public spaces in Simpang Empat Sub-District. The technique of collecting data from this research is by distributing a questionnaire. The results of research on public spaces in Simpang Empat Sub-District are based on the identification of the categorized comfort is good, the categorized accessibility is good, the functional category is very good, the maintenance is poorly categorized, and the sociability is in the poor category. While the average value of identification of public spaces in Simpang Empat Sub-District on comfort is 90.24 percent, on accessibility is 73.59 percent, on functional is 94.86 percent, on maintenance is 93.54 percent, on sociability is 91.71 percent. The conclusion of this research is that the public spaces in Simpang Empat Sub-District are already in good category.
