Abstract

Loan words are words adopted by the speakers of one language from a different language (the source language). A loan word can also be called borrowing. Most of Indonesian vocabularies now are derived from other languages such as from English. This research aims to analyze and describe the types of English loan words written in CNN Indonesia online newspaper; simple word, complex word, and translated word. The design of this research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The researcher conducted the study from CNN Indonesia online newspaper with various categories from internasional, nasional, ekonomi, and teknologi that published on 12th to 15th of July 2022. Kamus Kata-Kata Serapan Bahasa Asing dalam Bahasa Indonesia is used as the correction standard by the researcher. The result of the research showed that there is 53 English loan words that used in CNN Indonesia online newspaper. Simple word is the most frequently used which there are 24 words, then there are 20 complex words used in CNN Indonesia online newspaper, meanwhile translated word is the least frequently which there are 9 words used in CNN Indonesia online newspaper. In conclusion, loan words as the linguistic process have occurred in nearly every speech community in the world since it is the easiest and most frequent way to fill the lack of a word for a concept in a language or to show the prestige of a user in a language. English loan words help learners in learning English to recognize, infer, and generate English words.
