Abstract

Moral reasoning is a reason or considerations about something so that things can be considered good or bad things. This research aims to determine the relationship between family functioning and moral reasoning in class VIII students of SMP Pekanbaru. The subjects involved in this research were 75 students of SMP Pekanbaru, especially for the eight-grade. The sampling technique in this research used simple random sampling. The data collection process used two scales, namely, the Moral Reasoning scale compiled by Nikmah (2018), there were consists of 29 items, and the Family Function scale compiled by Putri (2018), there were consists of 25 items. Meanwhile, the statistical analysis data used in this research was the Pearson product-moment correlation method. Based on the result of this research, the findings show that the rxy coefficient value of 0.680 with p of 0.000 (p <0.05). It can be concluded that there was a negative and significant relationship between family functioning and moral reasoning in class VIII students of SMP Pekanbaru, with a positive correlation value, meaning that the higher the family functioning, the higher the moral reasoning in these students. On the other hand, the lower the functioning of the family, the higher the moral reasoning that leads to negative characteristics rather than positive.
