Abstract
Abuse of narcotics and illegal drugs among the younger generation today is increasing. The prevalence of deviations in the behavior of the younger generation can endanger the survival of this nation in the future. Because youth as a generation that is expected to become the nation's successor, are increasingly vulnerable to being devoured by addictive substances that destroy nerves. So that the young man can not think clearly. The definition of Narcotics according to Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, namely in Article 1 paragraph 1, namely: "Narcotics are substances or drugs derived from plants or non-plants, both synthetic and semi-synthetic, which can cause a decrease or change in consciousness, loss of taste. , reduce to eliminate pain, and can cause dependence, which are divided into groups as attached in this law". For this reason, the problem that the author examines in this study is how the impact of narcotics abuse on people's mental health and efforts to overcome narcotics abuse on people's mental health. The goal to be achieved is that this research is expected to provide the following benefits. Theoretically: To contribute ideas to the development of science in general and law in particular. To add reference material and input for further research. Practically: Can be used as reference material by students in writing related to narcotics. This type of research is included in the observational research group, namely research conducted at the research location using data collection tools, namely primary and secondary data used in the form of document data, questionnaires, and interviews. That is, the author analyzes data based on sources from primary data, namely the results of research in the field. The impact of Narcotics on people's mental health includes: health impacts: the health effects of using Narcotics reduce the ability of the blood to store oxygen because these substances contain dangerous toxins. Then the onset of memory loss as well as restlessness and mood swings quickly. Legal impact: the users of Narcotics and illegal drugs without strict control and supervision, as well as contrary to the applicable laws and regulations are crimes and have the impact of committing high crimes, because they are very detrimental to the lives of the people of the nation and state. And the social impact: these Narcotics users are more silent, ostracized in society and association and prefer to be anti-social and are no longer trusted by others because generally Narcotics addicts will like to lie and have the impact of committing crimes.
