Abstract

Water catchment areas are areas where rainwater seeps into the soil which subsequently becomes groundwater. The high rate of land conversion due to population growth in Siak Regency has resulted in a reduction in groundwater infiltration areas, this has resulted in the threat of drought in the dry season increasing. The results of this study is to determine the priority of water catchment areas in Siak Regency based on the analysis of the level of water infiltration area, water supply and demand, and water balance. This study used maps of soil type, rainfall intensity, slope and land use to identify the level of criticality of the catchment area. The water balance is calculated using the Thornthwhite Mather method based on the results of calculating the availability of water in each sub-watershed by the Ffolliot method, and the results of the calculation of domestic and non-domestic water needs based on the SNI 19-6728.1-2002. The priority of the water catchment area is obtained from the results of the Overlay between the map of the criticality level of the catchment area and the map of water balance. The results of the identification of the criticality of the water catchment area in Siak Regency showed a good potential value of 52.13%, natural normal by 21.42%, starting critical by 21.59%, somewhat critical by 4.2%, and critical by 0.66%. Meanwhile, the results of the analysis of the water balance in Siak Regency as a whole experienced a surplus every month, with the amount of water availability as much as 36,594,685,657,974 liters/year and the total water needs as much as 31,141,549,307 liters/year. The entire study showed that the priority for the development of water catchment areas was located in Kandis District (3 Sub-Watersheds), Sungai Apit (22 Sub-Watersheds), and Dayun (9 Sub-Watersheds), while the priorities for handling water catchment areas were located in Sabak Auh and Bunga Raya Districts (3 Sub-Watersheds).
